First COVID-19 case confirmed in Tokyo Olympics village
In the latest turn of events, a Tokyo Olympics official has become the first resident of the Olympic village to be diagnosed with COVID-19. The organizers say for confidentiality purposes they can only offer a vague description and few details. "In the current situation, that positive cases arise is something we must assume is possible," said Toshiro Muto, the CEO of the Tokyo organizing committee. The person is identified simply as a "games-concerned personnel."

Indian boxer Vijender Singh has criticised the Haryana government for not giving promotions to international medal-winning athletes who were employed by the state police for their sporting achievements. A total of eight sportspersons are locked in a legal battle with the Haryana state government over "pending promotions" in their state police jobs, hired as DSPs over a decade back for their sporting achievements.

After sailors, their boats have now reached Tokyo
Indian Olympic-bound sailor Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan's boats arrived in Tokyo. For the first time in history, a record four sailors will represent India at the Games. This is also the first time that the country will field sailors in three events.
