India faces mixed fortunes at WSF World Teams Championship

India's men’s team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ireland, while the women’s team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Belgium at the WSF World Teams Championship.

India experienced contrasting results across their matches at the WSF World Teams Championship on Monday.

The women’s team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Belgium in Group C after a gritty 2-1 victory over Colombia.

Meanwhile, the men’s team secured a crucial 2-1 win over Ireland in Group F, keeping their campaign alive.

The women’s team won against Colombia in their first tie of the day.

Anahat Singh opened with a dominant 11-8, 11-3, 11-4 win over Lucia Bautista Sarmiento in 18 minutes.

Akanksha Salunkhe followed up with a composed 11-6, 5-11, 11-2, 11-6 win over Catalina Pelaez in 28 minutes, securing the victory.

Although Laura Tovar defeated Nirupama Dubey 11-4, 11-5, 3-11, 12-14, 11-5 in 38 minutes, India claimed the tie 2-1.

The Indian women’s team faced a tough challenge against Belgium in the next game, losing all three matches.

Nele Gilis defeated Anahat Singh 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 in 47 minutes.

Tinne Gilis extended Belgium’s lead with an 11-2, 11-7, 11-6 victory over Akanksha Salunkhe in 23 minutes.

Chloe Crabbe sealed the clean sweep with a thrilling 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 12-10 win against Anjali Semwal in 43 minutes.

India’s men’s team delivered a gritty performance to secure a 2-1 win against Ireland.

Sam Buckley gave Ireland an early lead, defeating Abhay Singh 11-3, 9-11, 11-6, 11-1 in 34 minutes.

Velavan Senthilkumar leveled the tie with a commanding 11-9, 11-6, 11-3 victory over Conor Moran in 29 minutes.

Veer Chotrani then sealed the tie for India with an impressive 11-4, 11-3, 11-8 win over Oisin Logan in just 26 minutes.
