Tokyo Olympics: Artistic Gymnastics LIVE Day 2 - Pranati Nayak fails to qualify; Simone Biles eyes history - Updates, results, blogs
Japan Vault
Mai Murakami performs two HUGE vaults! Will be great to see if her score holds up for vault finals!
Performs the Double twisting Yurchenko and the Handspring 1.5 twist scoring a 14.433 & a 14.5 for an average of 14.466
The vault drama
For a gymnast to qualify to a final on vault, they must compete two different vaults, and is scored one each. The two are averaged to give a final score.
Surprisingly, Pranati opted to compete only one vault, therefore not eligible to make vault finals!
Bars and Floor
Great floor routine from Mai Murakami on floor. A little wild on her turns, but great tumbling with solid landings. Scores a 13.933
Alice D'amato smashes her Bars routine for a 14.233
No second vault for Pranati
Surprisingly, Pranati opts to not compete a second vault in Tokyo!
There go her chances to make vault finals!
Pranati Nayak!!!
Pranati Nayak Vault 1: Goes for the easier Tsukhara full twist compared to the double twist she did at World Championships in 2019
First up vault
Just about finishing warm ups here in Rotation 2 and Pranati starts on vault! I can feel butterflies all the way here
Pranati goes to vault
We end rotation 1 with Urara Ashikawa on beam with a competitive 13.9!
Next rotation has Pranati Nayak going to vault! This is her moment, so stay tuned!
Japan Beam
Japan's top All-around (AA) gymnasts, Mai Murakami and Yuna Hiraiwa off to shaky yet decent starts on balance beam. Benefit of doubt goes to them considering they started on beam without major errors!
Murakami with a 13.466 & Hiraiwa with a 13.533
