The Malaysia Masters Super 500 get underway on Tuesday at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. The biggest names in action on the opening day of the World Tour event are Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand. The women's doubles duo face Huang Yu-Hsun and Liang Ting Yu of Chinese Taipei.
Besides Treesa-Gayatri, emerging players like Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, Sankar Subramanian, Ayush Shetty, Tanya Hemanth and Unnati Hooda will be in action among others.
As it happened:
Like today, tomorrow promises to be even more fascinating with P.V Sindhu, Aakarshi Kashyap and many other star shuttlers poised to take the court. Don’t forget to join us for the live updates. Thank you
Indian women’s pairing of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker defeated Thailand’s Phattharin and Napapakorn 21-14, 21-13 and advanced into the round of 16 of the Malaysian Masters 2024.
Like Rutaparna/Swetaparna, the Indian pair of Unnat Hooda and Palak Arora also exited the Malaysian Masters in the round of 32, losing out to the Chinese Taipei pairing of Y.Hsu and J.Lin 21-10, 21-5.
Rutuparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda exit the Malaysian Masters 2024 in the round of 32, losing to Chinese Taipei duo C.Yu and S.Y.Sung with the scoreline reading 21-10, 21-7.
The Indian pair did not have it that easy at court 4 as their counterparts Yu-Hs/Ting from Chinese Taipei started strongly and went blow for blow. However, once the initial dust settled, the Indians took the upper hand and never looked back.
The script was identical in the second game as well, albeit the Taipei duo fought a bit more and prolonged what was an inevitable result for the Indians. They played with far more aggression and were in perfect sync, something their opponents lacked dearly.
Treesa and Gayatri now await their opponents for the round of 16 while the Taipei duo Yu-Hs and Ting make an early exit from the Malaysian Masters 2024.
Although at one point the second game went close, at 12-10, Treesa and Gayatri brought the heat down on Yu-Hs and Ting and went on a scoring spree resulting in a comfortable win.
The Indian pair are turning the screws and are looking to finish off the game quickly and their opponents have no answer to them.
The rally seemed to go on forever (not that we are complaining it was a brilliant display of athleticism and skill) but the Taipei duo had the last laugh as the shuttle hit the net when the Indians tried to return it.
Treesa and Gayatri continue their strong showing in the match and are not starting to pull ahead in game 2.
Indeed, the Indians seem to have found a way to counter the Taipei attack and are back in the game!
