Welcome to The Bridge's LIVE Blog for Shooting on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics.

The star Indian pistol shooter, Saurabh Chaudhary faltered in the final to finish seventh in the Men's 10m Air Pistol with a score of 137.4. The Meerut boy who was on fire in the qualification round, looked far from his best in the final as he crumbled under the pressure.

Iran's Javad Foroughi is the Olympic Champion in Men's 10m air pistol, while Serbia's Mikec Damir and the Chinese Wei Pang settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

Earlier, Abhishek Verma was failed to qualify for Men's 10m air pistol final whereas the women's 10m air rifle duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela too had the same fate.

Who will be the main challengers for the Indians?

The field in Men's 10m Air Pistol is one of the toughest ones at the Tokyo Olympics. Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma will face stiff challenges from the likes of Artem Chernousov, four-time Olympic Champion Jin Jongoh, 2008 Olympic Champion Pang Wei and others.

The Indians will certainly have their task cut out, and will need to be at the top of their game to have a shot at advancing to the final!

    Men's 10m Air Pistol Rules - Explained

The rules here are pretty much similar to the Women's 10m air rifle. The shooters will have to shoot six series of ten shots each from a 10m distance from the target. The top eight after the end of 60 shots will move to the final and will be in contention for a medal, while the rest will have their Olympic dream crushed.

Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma to lead Indian challenge in Men's 10m Air Pistol

India's star shooters Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma - both competing in their first-ever Olympics will be in action at the Asaka Shooting Range in just under an hour.

While the 19-year-old Chaudhary has been long touted as India's biggest medal hope at the Tokyo Olympics, his counterpart, Verma, has flown under the radar. But, none of this will matter when they take to the shooting range in a bit.

It will all come down to who handles the pressure better and forces their way into the final. And hopefully, India will have a better show here than we had a couple of hours prior in the Women's 10m Air Rifle.

End of the Indian campaign in Women's 10m Air Rifle

That's it. That's the end of the campaign for India in Women's 10m Air Rifle. Both, Apurvi Chandela and Elavenil Valarivan, looked far from their best and inconsistent - the former more so.

Elavenil finishes 16th and Apurvi at 36th position.

Remember, Apurvi had finished 34th in the qualification round five years back in Rio as well. So, the disappointment continues at the biggest stage continues for the veteran.

For Elavenil, on the other hand, this will be a huge learning curve. Not easy representing your country at the Olympics at just 21 years of age.

You can read the full match report here.

    Apurvi exits as well

Apurvi Chandela, too, follows the path of her younger teammate as she exits the Women's 10m Air Rifle in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She ends with a score of 621.9.
