Welcome to The Bridge's LIVE Blog for Shooting on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics.
The star Indian pistol shooter, Saurabh Chaudhary faltered in the final to finish seventh in the Men's 10m Air Pistol with a score of 137.4. The Meerut boy who was on fire in the qualification round, looked far from his best in the final as he crumbled under the pressure.
Iran's Javad Foroughi is the Olympic Champion in Men's 10m air pistol, while Serbia's Mikec Damir and the Chinese Wei Pang settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Earlier, Abhishek Verma was failed to qualify for Men's 10m air pistol final whereas the women's 10m air rifle duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela too had the same fate.

After the end of the second series of five shots, Saurabh Chaudhary is ranked 7th just 0.1 ahead of the final placed shooter. He needs to get his act right in the next two shots, else it could be a disaster.

Men's 10m Air Pistol Final Rules - Explained
The rules for the final are a bit different. And no the shooters will not get 60 shots like in the qualification.
The shooters will get to shoot two series of five shots each before the match heads into the second stage of Elimination. After that, every two-shot the lowest-ranked shooter will be eliminated and we will have the winner by the 24th shot. The one who survives will be called an Olympic Champion for the rest of his life.
If the scores are tied in during the time of elimination, we will have a one shot shoot-off. The one who survives goes on, the other bids goodbye!

The Final of Men's 10m Air Pistol is expected to start in less than 10 minutes for now, and the Indians have a lot to cheer for. The country's pistol ace Saurabh Chaudhary will be in contention for a podium finish in the Final, having qualified at the first position for the same.

Saurabh Chaudhary qualifies at first position, Abhishek Verma misses out
Saurabh Chaudhary has qualified for the final in the first position with a total of 586/600. Abhishek Verma, on the other hand, looked on course to make it but faltered in the final few shots to end with 575/600 to miss out.

Abhishek Verma messes it up!
After shooting so well for a major portion of the qualification round, Abhishek Verma has messed it up in the final series. He shot a below-par 92 under pressure and is now down to number 17 in the rankings. This sadly seems to be the end of the road for Verma.
