National Nutrition Week 2020 is celebrated on September 1st through 7th. During this period, initiatives are taken up by the government. These initiatives center around nutrition and the effects of good food with a healthy body, mind and lifestyle.

It was first organized by Food and Nutrition Board that operates under Ministry of Women and Child Development. Running since 1982, it puts emphasis on educating people in all states across India regarding the importance and necessity of good nutrition in diets.

Centered on the quote “You are what you eat”, National Nutrition Week puts emphasis on eating for better health. According to State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, over 10% of the Indian population is malnourished. This accounts for many problems related to poor dietary practices and undernourishment. This is visible in symptoms like stunted growth, weaker bones and muscles, higher risk of diseases, etc.

The theme for National Nutrition Week 2020 is ‘Eat Right, Bite by Bite’. Awareness generation camps, workshops and educational programmes inform people on how food helps with immunity, preparing food right to avoid loss of nutritional value and more. It has also been endorsed by Manushi Chhillar, winner of Miss World 2017 who took to Instagram to spread awareness.

The main objective of Nutrition Week is to evaluate and educate people all across the country. This, in turn helps in identifying and resolving many health issues across the country that occur due to dietary negligence. Planning and implementing dietary programmes at a countrywide scale with thorough research can help everyone follow the right path to health and nutrition.
