The 11th edition of the Esports World Championship began in Seoul with the titles of Tekken 7, E-football, PES 2020 & DOTA 2 up for grabs. India will be represented by two Esports athletes in the event - Abhinav Tejan in the Tekken 7 category, and Moinuddin Amdani in PES 2020.

While Tejan is ranked number 4 in the world currently, Amdani finished second in the Nations Cup that was held in Bengaluru last month. Tejan is unbeaten in Tekken 7 this year and also remained unbeaten in the National Qualifiers. This will be the third time that he will be playing in the World Championships. Amdani also won the National Qualifiers this year, held in Mumbai in September.

A total of 47 countries will be participating in the event, with the DOTA 2 category seeing 21 nations fight it out for the team title. PES 2020 will have 33 countries competing, while Tekken 7 will see athletes from 34 nations battling for the crown. Both the Indian players will be in action today, with the PES 2020 group stage commencing alongside the Tekken 7 matches.

The International Esports Federation (IeSF) is a global body in South Korea that has been overseeing all the editions of the World Championships. Their aim is to promote electronic sports and eventually get it recognised as a legitimate sport. It has seen its membership rise to 56 countries currently, with as many as 23 member nations from Asia alone.

India is yet to win a medal in the Esports World Championships, but the Esports Federation of India (EFI) is hopeful that one of the two players who have gone to Seoul this time around will return with a medal. Alcis Sports Pvt. Ltd. will be the performance wear partner of the edition this year as well.
