Two Indians set to participate at Esports World Championship this year

The Esports Federation of India (ESFI)’s mega-event, National Esports Championship (NESC 2019) in Mumbai turned out to be a major success as two Indians, Abhinav Tejan (Tekken 7) and Moin Amdani (PES) are now set to participate at the 11th Esports World Championship in Seoul, organised by International Esports Federation (IESF).

The NESC was conducted during the GameCon on September 28 and 29 at the Phoenix Market City in Kurla, Mumbai. The winner of NESC 2018, Abhinav Tejan, who had produced an impressive performance by jumping to 4th rank at the 10th Esports World Championship held in Chinese Taipei last year, managed to carry his form from last year’s championship to this year. He once again managed to emerge atop the worthy competition, sweeping the Tekken 7 event and confirming his ticket to Seoul.

When interviewed by our correspondent post his emphatic victory, he told us of the rigorous training and practice he did, in preparation of the event with a single goal in sight, to win this year’s Tekken 7 competition like last year. A focussed gamer, Abhinav mentioned his plans to train harder in order to prepare himself for the Seoul challenge. He is hopeful of earning a place in the grand finals this year, to finish the December-scheduled tournament as the winner, opposed to his last year’s 4th rank.  

Contrary to Tekken 7’s winner Abhinav, the PES event’s champion, Moin Admani, was a first-time participant in the tournament, who relied on skills acquired from playing PES as a leisure activity on PlayStation 2. He sealed a highly competitive PES championship title to confirm his place on a flight to Seoul, as India’s representative in the 2019 event.

Moin, in his interview post the victory, said that he practiced the game at a small cyber café located in South Mumbai with no professional training to prepare for the championship. The lack of good training left him surprised at his competitor’s advanced gameplay tactics like manual passing and manual shooting.

Moin believes that he is still learning the game and vowed to practice it with the utmost passion before representing India at the Esports World Championship. Professional training may or not be a part of his preparation in the next few months, as he believes that his experience of the game and getting his mindset right will ultimately prove beneficial in his performance at the mega event.

NESC 2019, supported by Alcis as the Kit Partner and OneGigaFiber as Internet gaming partner, commenced on September 28 as multiple, highly-skilled gamers looked to earn the opportunity of representing India at the World Championship to be held later this year, in a country considered to be the Mecca of Esports, South Korea.
