India started their 2023 Men's World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Spain. Local boy Amit Rohidas opened the scoring for India in the first quarter before midfielder Hardik Singh chipped in with a goal in the second.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh missed a penalty stroke by inches in the third quarter as both teams failed to score in the second half despite multiple chances.
With this win, India opened their account in the points table and sit second in their Pool D behind England.
