India once again had a packed schedule on Day 8 of the Commonwealth Games 2026, with the spotlight firmly on athletics as Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra began his campaign in the men's javelin throw qualification.
India added two more medals to its tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday as Lovepreet Singh claimed silver in the men's +110kg weightlifting before Seema Kaliramna capped off the day with bronze in the women's discus throw.
Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar ended the opening day of the decathlon in second place, keeping himself firmly in medal contention.
Animesh Kujur missed the men's 200m final after clocking 20.65s in the semi-finals, while Vishal TK bowed out in the men's 400m semi-finals.
In the final athletics event of the night, Parul Chaudhary finished 13th in the women's 5,000m final, clocking 15:08.56, the second-fastest time of her career.

Athletics, Men's 400m Semi-finals: Vishal TK clocks a poor 46.43s; fails to qualify for semis
Indian national record holder Vishal TK had a poor outing in the semi-finals as he finished outside the 46s, clocking a sub-par 46.33s.
He finished 6th in his heat, and overall he finished in 14th position, with just 8 available quota spots.

Athletics, Men's Triple Jump: Selva Prabhu, Praveen Chithravel advance to final
Selva finally found a valid attempt of 16.21m on his third attempt and jumped up to third position to qualify for the final.
Meanwhile, Praveen Chithravel didn't take any more attempts, and his first-round attempt of 16.46m was enough to qualify for the final.

Para Cycling, Men's Team Sprint Qualification: India failed to qualify for the medal events, clocking 46.396s
Indian men's sprint team of Ronaldo Singh, Rojit Singh and David Beckham clocked a sub-par time of 46.396s in the qualification round.
They finished 7th in the heats among as many teams, with only the top four advancing to the medal events.

He improved his previous best of 7.67m by a good 15 centimetres, adding another 1000+ event to his arsenal.
He gained 1015 points from the event and is currently in top position in the men's long jump standings.

Athletics, Men's Javelin Throw: Neeraj Chopra qualifies for final
All three Indian javelin throwers progressed to the final.
Neeraj Chopra's second attempt at 79.61m was enough for him to qualify for the final and ended the qualifying round in 5th place.
He joined Rohit Yadav (78.37m) and Yashvir Singh (78.36m) in the final as they had already qualified for the final, finishing in 9th and 10th positions.
