Welcome to The Bridge's live blog for Archery on Day 0 of the Tokyo Olympics.

Deepika Kumari finished at ninth position in the Women's Individual Ranking round with 663 points.

The young Pravin Jadhav has pulled off a better performance than the likes of experienced Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai in the men's individual ranking round at the Tokyo Olympics today.

    Deepika ends the first half in 4th position

    What a comeback this from the Indian veteran! She shoots 57 in the sixth round and has climbed up to number 4 with 334 points at the half way stage of the Women's Individual Ranking Round.

    Did You Know?

    The South Korean archers have won 23 out of the 34 gold medals awarded in archery since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. They are unbeaten in the women's team event, with a total of 8 gold medals against their name.

    Deepika comes roaring back!

    A wonderful round for the Indian as she shoots 59 out of a possible 60, and moves back to 10th position with a score of 277.

    Deepika falters, shoots a poor 51 in Round 4

    The Indian has faltered and manages to score only 51 out of 60 in round four. After 24 arrows Deepika is ranked 14th with a score of 218.

    Deepika is still in 10th position

    Deepika Kumari is at tied 10th after 3 rounds. She has a total of 167 out of a possible 180. South Korea's An San leads the field with score of 174.

    Deepika ranked tenth after the two rounds

    Deepika Kumari shot 111 out of a possible 120 after the first two rounds of six arrows each. She is ranked tenth currently.

    Rules - Explained

    It is quite simple. A total of 64 archers will be pitted against each other, with each one of them shooting a grand total of 72 arrows from a distance of 70m. There are no eliminations here, and the archers will be seeded in the Olympics according to their performance today. The Ranking Round will be used to create the draws, wherein the one who finishes first today will face-off against the one who finished 64th, second against 63rd and so on.

    Deepika Kumari to start the Indian challenge in Tokyo

    Veteran Indian archer and the current World Number 1, Deepika Kumari will be the first from the country to be in action at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. A very big Olympics indeed for the woman from Jharkhand, who will be seen competing in her third consecutive Games. 

    Deepika Kumari has been around for a long long time and has seen it all. The only medal missing from her cabinet is an Olympic medal, and the 27-year-old will be quite certainly eyeing to return back home with one. 

    A total of 63 archers from across the world will be in action alongside Deepika and will be fighting it out for their seedings at the Tokyo Olympics in just a matter of minutes.
