Decathlon India has launched its specialist running sub-brand KIPRUN, targeting more than ₹1,000 crore in running-business turnover and over five million active runners by 2030, as the sports retailer looks to expand its presence in India's growing running market.

The launch includes 35 products across running footwear, apparel, hydration packs, trail gear and accessories, of which 17 are high-performance running shoes. KIPRUN, introduced globally by Decathlon in 2008, is currently available in 70 countries.

The India strategy combines specialist running products with footwear innovation and expert-guided customer support across Decathlon's stores and digital channels.

Building a ₹1,000-crore category

Decathlon's running business in India currently generates slightly less than ₹500 crore in turnover, according to CEO Sankar Chatterjee. The company plans to double the business over the next four years.

The KIPRUN launch gives that expansion a dedicated brand, with products aimed at beginner, intermediate and elite runners.

The range includes technologies such as VFoam Plus and MFoam+ cushioning, alongside carbon-plated soles in selected race-day models. The offering spans different running distances, experience levels and performance requirements.

The company is positioning footwear as central to its growth strategy, supported by product development and customer engagement.

A growing running market

The expansion comes amid increasing participation in organised running events across India.

According to IMARC Group estimates cited by Decathlon, India's running-gear market grew from US$2.5 billion in 2025 to US$2.7 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach US$4.9 billion by 2034.

Chatterjee said India organised around 2,000 running events in 2025, compared with approximately 500–600 in 2018.

Decathlon's ambition extends beyond product sales. Its target of serving five million active runners by 2030 places community engagement and participation alongside turnover as measures of the KIPRUN business.

Bruno Araujo, Country Sports Leader for Running at Decathlon Sports India, said the company wants to make running a daily habit for more Indians.

Scaling the business

The KIPRUN launch forms part of Decathlon's wider multi-sport strategy in India, with running identified as a dedicated growth category.

The company is seeking to combine specialist products, retail distribution and engagement with the running community to expand its business over the next four years.

With the existing running category already approaching ₹500 crore in turnover, the target will require the business to roughly double by 2030.
