Adidas has reduced roles within its India Technology organisation as part of a restructuring aimed at simplifying its operating model and strengthening its technology capabilities.

The sportswear company confirmed the cuts after reports emerged that a much larger proportion of employees at its Gurugram Tech Hub could be affected. Adidas has since clarified that the impact is less than 20% of its India Technology organisation, without disclosing the exact number of employees affected.

The clarification follows initial reports that around 350 employees, or nearly half of a roughly 700-strong Gurugram technology workforce, could be affected. Adidas has not confirmed that figure. The reported affected roles include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to align our operating model with the evolving needs of the business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce several roles within our Technology organisation in India,” Adidas said.

The company said the changes are intended to “simplify parts of our organisation, strengthen critical capabilities, and position adidas for long-term success in a rapidly evolving business and technology environment.”

Adidas also said affected employees would receive transition assistance, while several roles remain open across the organisation.

Adidas’ India technology operations span its Gurugram and Chennai hubs. According to Reuters, the company’s website listed nearly 650 employees across the two technology hubs at the time of the announcement. The Gurugram office also houses Adidas’ local marketing organisation and one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs.

The company established its Gurugram Tech Hub in 2021 as part of its efforts to build technology and engineering capabilities in India. It subsequently expanded its Indian operations, including opening a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.

The restructuring comes as Adidas adjusts the composition of its technology organisation in India rather than reducing its overall presence in the country. The company has reiterated that India remains a strategically important market, with its technology operations continuing to support growth, innovation and digital transformation.
