Tourist killed, Pilot injured in Paragliding Collision in Kullu’s Gadsa site
Another tragic paragliding collision at the Gadsa site in Kullu on Friday resulted in the death of a tourist from Tamil Nadu and severe injuries to the pilot.
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Jayesh Ram, was involved in a mid-air collision when the paraglider he was riding with pilot Ashwani Kumar collided with another glider.
The district administration has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
Following previous violations, paragliding had been banned at the Gadsa site in January 2023, but the ban was lifted in February of the same year.
According to Kullu sub-divisional magistrate Vikas Shukla, preliminary investigations suggest that pilot Kumar attempted a 360-degree swirl, causing the paraglider to collide with another glider that managed to maintain its balance.
Kumar, a registered tandem pilot with the Kullu district tourism department, sustained injuries and was rushed to PGIMER in Chandigarh after being treated at a private hospital.
This incident comes just 10 days after a similar paragliding accident in Manali, where a tourist from Andhra Pradesh lost his life and the pilot was injured.
