National Games 2025: Day 9 - Niraj wins gold in shooting; Deepika wins women's recurve title - Highlights

On the ninth day of the 38th National Games Games, Indian athletes compete for honors in various sports. 

While there were several medal rounds in taekwondo on Thursday, the beach volleyball final - men's and women's - awaited engaging contests, as the Tamil Nadu men's and women's teams faced Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry in the respective finals.

Besides these two sports, there were plenty of actions to follow in sports such as boxing, archery, lawn bowls, rowing, hockey, and tennis.

Haryana women's team edge past Odisha in penalties to clinch the title in women's team competition. They won 4-2 on penalties after a goalless first 90 minutes.

Medalists Women's team competition:

Gold - Haryana

Silver - Odisha

Bronze - West Bengal

The women's football gold medal match went into the shoot-off as both teams failed to score a goal in the given 90 minutes of play.

At half time, none of the two teams was able to break the deadlock and couldn't even make a lot of goal-scoring opportunities as both the defenses were on top.

The Andhra Pradesh men's beach volleyball team defeated Tamil Nadu's men's team in the final, winning the title in a hard-fought match (25-23, 21-19) in straight sets.

On the other hand, Telangana had another heart-breaking fourth-place finish after losing a tiring three-set match against Goa in the bronze medal playoff.

Gold - Andhra Pradesh

Silver - Tamil Nadu

Bronze - Goa

The Tamil Nadu women's beach volleyball team defeated Puducherry's second women's team in the final, winning the title in straight sets, 21-15, 21-11.

Puducherry had a double podium finish as their first women's team defeated Telangana in the bronze medal match.

Indian veteran archer Deepika Kumari continued her solid performance on the national circuit, winning the gold medal for Jharkhand in the women's individual recurve category.

She defeated the youngster, Anshika Kumari of Bihar in the final.

Both the archers have made their place in the Indian team for the upcoming World Cup circuit.

Haryana's mixed team of Suruchi and Parmod clinched the air pistol mixed team title with a dominant 17-7 victory over Rajasthan's Anjali Shekhawat and Umesh Choudhary.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal favored the Maharashtra duo of Rahi Sarnobat and Pranav Patil. They overcome the challenge of the home pairing of Abhinav Deshwal and Yashasvi Joshi.
