Mohun Bagan SG beat Mumbai City FC 3-1 in the Durand Cup 2023 quarterfinal in Kolkata on Sunday to progress to the semifinals, where they will take on FC Goa. MBSG will take on FC Goa on Thursday, while East Bengal take on Northeast United in the other semifinal.
Jason Cummings gave MBSG the lead in the 9th minute before Pereyra Diaz equalised in the 28th minute. However, only two minutes later, Manvir Singh scored with a header to give MBSG a 2-1 lead at half-time. Anwar Ali made it 3-1 to MBSG in the 63rd minute.

It is the Kolkata giant who win this tactical battle against the giant from Mumbai. The tone was set by new recruit Jason Cummings. The deciding goals were scored by Manvir Singh and Anwar Ali. Special mention to Ashique Kuruniyan, who created two of the three goals for Mohun Bagan.
Ferrando's side will move on from this win with huge confidence as they prepare to face FC Goa in the semifinals on Thursday. Sunday's final might yet provide a chance for Mohun Bagan to exact revenge over East Bengal. Could the 2023 Durand Cup final be another Kolkata derby? We shall know in four more days.
