Islanders in Asia
It will be the biggest match of their lives for most of these Mumbai players today. Spare a thought for Angulo though. He was not part of FC Goa's Champions League squad last year. One of the reasons why he came to Mumbai was so that he could play in Asia's top competition. Tonight though he is not part of the squad, with an injury, according to reports.
What they said
Ever Banega says about Mumbai City: "It's the first match of the campaign and we will be looking to start on our best foot. We respect all opponents, but we are determined to win the first game."
"This is a different level, it is the Champions League. The quality is better and I think we have to prepare in a different way. All the players are excited and just waiting for the first game," says Mumbai vice-captain Mandar Rao Desai.
One hour to kick-off.
Mumbai City FC vs Al Shabab: Key Players
A mild poring over of the Al Shabab team will tell you Mumbai are up against a World Cupper today. Messi's Argentine teammate Ever Banega will play as midfield lynchpin. Carlos Alberto, the Brazilian, is the team's highest scorer for them with 14 goals this season.
For Mumbai, one key player is missing from the squad completely. Will be interesting to see how they organise their attacks in Angulo's absence. Diego Mauricio is on the bench and can be expected to come on at some stage. For now, Mumbai will field 3 foreigners. Vikram Pratap Singh will be the CF. Apuia, meanwhile, will be up for the battle of his life in the middle with Banega.
