India once again had a packed schedule on Day 8 of the Commonwealth Games 2026, with the spotlight firmly on athletics as Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra began his campaign in the men's javelin throw qualification.

India added two more medals to its tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday as Lovepreet Singh claimed silver in the men's +110kg weightlifting before Seema Kaliramna capped off the day with bronze in the women's discus throw.

Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar ended the opening day of the decathlon in second place, keeping himself firmly in medal contention.

Animesh Kujur missed the men's 200m final after clocking 20.65s in the semi-finals, while Vishal TK bowed out in the men's 400m semi-finals.

In the final athletics event of the night, Parul Chaudhary finished 13th in the women's 5,000m final, clocking 15:08.56, the second-fastest time of her career.

Lovepreet Singh ends India's weightlifting campaign with yet another medal, winning a silver medal in men's +110Kg, while Seema Kaliramna added a Women's Discus bronze to end the day on a high.

Earlier in the day, Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra began his campaign in the qualification round, finishing fifth with a best throw of 79.61m to qualify for the final. Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh also sealed their spots in the final.

In the men's triple jump, national record holder Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu also booked their places in the final, while Vishal TK (400m) and Animesh Kujur (200m) bowed out in semi-finals.

Competition resumes on Friday with action across bowls, boxing, cycling, judo and athletics. A total of 10 medal events are scheduled across three sports.

Seema extended India's proud discus throw legacy at the Commonwealth Games, securing the country's ninth medal in the women's event in CWG history.

She finished in third position with a best of 58.65m, which she threw on her third attempt. Meanwhile, Nidhi Rani finished in 4th place with the best of 57.10m.

Parul ends her campaign medal-less in Glasgow as she finished the women's 5,000m event in 13th position, despite clocking her second-best time ever.

Seema had a foul throw on her 4th attempt, but she maintained her third position in the overall standings, with her best of 58.65m.

Tejaswin again failed to finish near his personal best, and with 49.51s, he finished 5th in the 400m event, earning 837 points.

Despite that, he ended the day 1 at the second place with 4339 points, behind Canada's Damian Warner by just 14 points.

Seema remains in third place at the halfway stage of the competition, while Nidhi Rani is chasing her in 4th, improving her distance for the third consecutive time.

Tejaswin comfortably finished the men's high jump event at top position with a leap of 2.15m, earning 944 points from the event.

Being his best event in the decathlon, Tejaswin must have wanted more from this event, having a personal best of 2.29m.

However, he still won the event with a good 15-centimetre lead over the next competitor and is now in second position with 3502 points after four of the 10 events.
