Satwik-Chirag lose World No. 1 ranking, Srikanth out of top 30

The Indian men's doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost their world number one spot in the latest BWF World Rankings, as Kidmabi Srikanth dropped out of the top 30 in men's singles on Tuesday.

Satwik and Chirag were toppled from the position by China's Laing Wei Keng and Wang Chang after they clinched the Indonesia Open Super 1000 title. 

The Indian duo is now ranked third in the latest rankings. They suffered an early exit in the Singapore Open and withdrew from the Indonesia Open last week, affecting their ranking in the process. 

While the Chinese pair Liang and Wang rose to the top removing Satwik-Chirag, for the second time since October 2023, the Danish pair Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen jumped to world number two.

The ranking of the Indian pair is unlikely to improve as they have skipped the Australian Open Super 500 this week.

In men's singles, veteran Indian shuttler and World Championships silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth went down four more places to stay at Wolr No. 32. This is his lowest ranking in the last decade after he exited the Singapore Open in the first round due to an injury.

HS Prannoy and Lakshay Sen remained the world number 10 and 14 in the men's singles.

PV Sindhu stayed at world number 12 in the women's category, and she is expected to go to the 2024 Paris Olympics with the same ranking. 

In women's doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have improved their ranking further and went up to World No. 24 after their giant-killing acts in recent tournaments. They have jumped six places from world number 30 in the last week of May.

Olympic-bound Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa also went up a place to become the world number 19. 

Apart from HS Prannoy and Satwik-Chirag, it is unlikely that other Indian shuttlers will have seedings at the Paris Olympics. Prannoy also has to improve his ranking in the upcoming tournaments to be seeded at the Paris Olympics.
