It was a disappointing start for the Indian contingent on day one of athletics events at the Tokyo Olympics. Avinash Sable, MP Jabir, Dutee Chand, and the mixed relay team were all knocked out from the heats.
Avinash Sable did set a new national record and was also a bit unlucky as he finished 13th fastest overall but was knocked out because of the level of competition in heat 2.

The long-term leader Stephen Kissa has dropped out of the race and Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda is in the lead after the 7000m mark.
As we had mentioned before, these are really punishing conditions and the entire pack seems to be struggling.
At the 6000m mark, Stephen Kissa from Uganda is in the lead but doesn't look in good shape and he could be taken over very quickly.
Poland in first and The Netherlands in second after the first 800m and look very comfortable.
