Men's Steeplechase 3000m Heat 2 Results

A much slower run compared to the first Heat, but it does not matter. Right then, something around 8:17 is what Avinash Sable would need to ensure a smooth passage to the final, it seems.

Olympic Champion El Bakkali makes it with ease. So do the two Kenyan athletes. The others will have to wait for being the fastest losers after the remaining two heats.

Up Next: Avinash Sable in Men's 3000m Steeplechase

After two disappointing performances from racewalkers Priyanka Goswami and Sandeep Kumar, the Indian eyes now move to track events where the rising star Avinash Sable will be in action soon in Heat 3 of Men's 3000m Steeplechase.

Stay tuned!

Sandeep Kumar comes home 40th

A below par performance from Sandeep Kumar as he finishes 40th off 45 athletes clocking 1:31.58. This is way below his personal best of 1:20:16.

Yamanishi storms to Gold!

That was just so easy for Yamanishi. He retains his gold and is the World Champion with 1:19.07. His teammate comes home second while Sweden takes the final spot on the podium.

Heartbreak for Kenya's Gathimba, who had the third spot sealed for a long time before the Swede just brushed past him in the final lap.

Final lap left for the race leaders and Japan looks poised for a 1-2 finish with defending champion Yamanishi and Ikeda in the lead. Gathimba is a distant third while Karlstorm is further behind.

Can Yamanishi defend his title?

Penalty for Sandeep

There comes the third red card for Sandeep and off he goes to the penalty zone. Not quite India's day in racewalking, it seems.

Sandeep completes 15km

Sandeep Kumar completes 15km in 1:06.02. He now has two red cards for a bent knee and is trailing the leading pack by almost 2kms and more than 5 minutes.

Karlstorm, Yamanishi, Ikeda and Gatimbha leading the race with just 3kms to go for them.
