Asian Games Badminton: Satwik-Chirag, Prannoy enter semis; Sindhu exits - Highlights

On Friday, three Indians will be in action in the badminton semifinals.

HS Prannoy in men's singles and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in men's doubles will look to better the colour of their medals when they play their semifinal matches at the Asian Games 2023.

PV Sindhu, last edition's runner-up, made a quarterfinal exit, losing to He Bingjiao 16-21, 12-21.

Johann go wide. Satwik and Chirag win the second game 21-9 and advance to the semifinals with a straight-game win. Satwik and Chirag also confirm a historic medal for India. The last Indian men's doubles pair to win an Asian Games medal were Leroy D'Sa and Pradeep Gandhe in 1982.

Final result: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty beats Nge Joo Jie-Johann Prajogo 21-7, 21-9 in 31 minutes 

20-8 lead for Satwik-Chirag. They are on match point now.

But Nge and Johann are not done yet. They hit a smash and Chirag goes wide. Nge and Johann trail 9-20. The Indians still have 10 match points. 

A point for Nge and Johann as Satwik's shot goes long. They now trail 8-19 in the second game.

Satwik's smash is too fast and rapid. The Singaporean players could not return it. The Indians lead 19-7 now.

Johann's killing smash goes wide. The Indians win a point to take a 17-7 lead in the second game. 

Satwik's smash trickles over the net and they take a 15-6 lead and then 16-6 lead. 

Nge shows his court craft by playing a crosscourt drop shot. They trail 6-13 now. But Satwik and Chirag cruise to a 14-6 lead now.

The Indians continue to bombard Nge and Johann with smashes. The Indians now lead 12-5 and then make it 13-5. The Indians are super fast. 

Satwik and Chirag take an 11-5 lead in the second game at the interval.
