Aishwarya Mishra finished 4th in the women's 400m final and Md Ajmal finished 5th in the men's 400m final. In the Heptathlon, Agasara Nandini is placed at 4th with a total of 3328 points while defending champion Swapna Barman is at 6th with 3312 points after four events.
As it happened:
The race was quite something with Kartik taking an early lead, runners dropping out and then the unfortunate fall but the Indian runners will remember it as one of the best as both Kartik and Gulveer clocked their personal bests.
An unbelievable finish! Both the Indians sneak into the medal places at the very end, in the last 100 metres. It looked like they would have to stay content with 4th and 5th. What a last minute turnaround!
Kartik Kumar (Silver) and Gulveer Singh (bronze) have given India a completely surprising medal haul from this event!
Coming up to the last few laps in the 10000m and the two Indians are still in touch with the leading pack. It's down to 5 in the leading pack, including the Indians! A medal looks like it is a whisker away. Will it be so near but so far again?
The Saudi has dropped off! It is only Japan and Bahrain in front of India now!
There are 7 runners in the leading pack now. Kartik and Gulveer are both among the top seven, though they will need a push to get into the medal places. Currently behind the top 5.
It's Kartik Kumar who takes a big lead from the rest of the field in the early laps.
Two Indians in the next event - the men's 10000m final.
Japan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have the runners with the most chance of medals based on their season bests. Gulveer and Kartik have a decent chance at pulling off something special. The next hour will show if they can.
Another 4th-placed finish for India. It's been a rather 4th-place campaign for India at these Asian Games.
Swapna Barman registers a shot put score of 12.27 (6th in shot put) to be ranked 4th overall in heptathlon after three events. She has one more event remaining tonight - the 200m sprint.
