India went down by 11 runs against England in their Group B clash of the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Smriti Mandhana's half-century and a valiant unbeaten 47 from Richa Ghosh went in vain as the women in blue slipped to their first defeat of the World Cup.
Earlier in the day, Renuka Thakur shone with a fiver - the best ever bowling figures for an Indian at the Women's T20 World Cup, even as England posted 151/7 after being asked to bat first.

SHIKHA PANDEY STRIKESSS!
Just what the doctored ordered for India, but this is certainly not how the women in blue would have expected it. A harmless full-toss from Pandey, and Heather Knight just chips it to Shafali Verma at mid-off.
A soft dismissal against the run of play and India would take it gleefully.

50* partnership
Boundaries flowing now for England and this game is quickly slipping away from India's grasp. Sciver-Brunt and Knight also bring up their 50* partnership off just 37 deliveries.

DRINKS!
Shafali Verma hit for twin boundaries by Nat-Sciver Brunt now as England control the proceedings now. This is a brilliant recovery for the Englishwoman after losing their top three within the first five overs.
At halfway stage England are 72/3 with Sciver (35*) and Knight (23*) in the middle. India needs a wicket and they need it quickly. Their bowlers barring Thakur have been ordinary so far.

Gayakwad leaks 12
Rajeshwari Gayakwad brought into the attack and she is taken to cleaners. A reverse sweep for a boundary first by Knight, before the bowler drops one short down the leg side to leak four more.
A nice partnership building now for England and India can sense danger.

Nat Sciver-Brunt survives a run-out scare
Knight reverse laps the ball to short-third man and sets off. Nat Sciver-Brunt responds, but has to dive full length to just about get in before the bails are taken off. Direct hit would have been curtains for the batter.

Not the fourth over for Renuka, but Harmanpreet reintroduces Shikha Pandey into the attack. The veteran responds with a tight over conceding just three.
