India went down by 11 runs against England in their Group B clash of the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Smriti Mandhana's half-century and a valiant unbeaten 47 from Richa Ghosh went in vain as the women in blue slipped to their first defeat of the World Cup.

Earlier in the day, Renuka Thakur shone with a fiver - the best ever bowling figures for an Indian at the Women's T20 World Cup, even as England posted 151/7 after being asked to bat first.

    END OF INNINGS!

That also brings curtains on the first innings. Renuka Thakur got India to an excellent start before Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt brought England back into the contest with a 5- partnership.

Shikha Pandey, playing her first match of the World Cup, helped India pull things back with the wicket of Knight, but Sciver and Amy Jones combined to ensure India were always under pressure. The women in blue eventually needed Renuka Thakur to come back with the last over to ensure that England do not run away with this.

    FIFER FOR RENUKA THAKUR

Renuka Thakur returns to the attack and closes off the innings well. She first gets Amy Jones, who tries a reverse sweep, caught behind before Katherine Sciver-Brunt is caught at long-on for a golden duck.

    Two sixes in an over

Deepti Sharma punished for being too predictable as both Sophie Ecclestone and Amy Jones pocket a six each of the penultimate over of the innings. Sharma kept bowling it wide outside off stump, and the batters moved across to slog it to the leg-side both times.

    ENG: 144/5 (19)

    SCIVER-BRUNT, OUT!

Fifty and out for Nat Sciver-Brunt as she falls to Deepti Sharma. Tries a reverse sweep, but only manages to hit it to Smriti Mandhana at short-thirdman. Catching practice for the Indian vice-captain there.

    50* Nat Sciver-Brunt

    Jones on fire

    100 up for England

Nat Sciver-Burnt and Amy Jones going about the rebuilding job without any fuss post Heather Knight's wicket. They bring up the 100 for England in the 15th over with a single, before Jones hits the first six of the innings off Vastrakar's bowling.
