Women's World Cup: India lose by 62 runs against New Zealand, Kaur scores 71 runs - Highlights, Scores, Updates

Welcome to the live blog of the New Zealand vs India match-up at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022!
The Indian women's cricket team, led by skipper Mithali Raj once again failed to come out victorious against New Zealand as they lost by 62 runs. India's top order was not able to score many runs leading to a heavy defeat against the hosts. Vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the only player to score a half-century (71).
India has thrashed Pakistan in their World Cup opener, winning by 107 runs apart from winning their two warmup matches. New Zealand, on the other hand, lost their opener to West Indies in a thriller but followed it up with a convincing win against Bangladesh.
India will now face the West Indies in the next match of the World Cup on March 12th.

India will be playing New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton which is usually a great pitch for scoring and favourable to batters!
Lisa Sthalekar and Craig McMillan analyse the pitch: "The pitch that was used for Australia-England earlier was a bit faster and bouncier. This one looks really good and a little bit dry as well. I think they’ll be looking somewhere at the 240-250 mark. Spin to win in today's game."

Mithali Raj: "It’s a good wicket and the sun is a bit warm, but later there might be a bit of dew. We have one change, Yastika Bhatia will be swapping with Shafali Verma. We expect her to do well today. The first game was a bit of nerves, the girls are well settled now."

While India got the perfect start to the tournament with a win over Pakistan, but they did suffer a scare when India's middle-order batting lineup crumbled and a Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana rescued it for them.
India therefore will want to make a stronger statement today with an emphatic win over the seasoned and talented Kiwi side.
The White Ferns lost their World Cup opener to West Indies in a thriller quite unexpectedly by just 3 runs but obviously made a powerful punch against Bangladesh in their second match! Even they would be hungry for a win!

Just after India concluded their series against New Zealand on the Kiwi soil, ahead of the World Cup with a 4-1 showing, we spoke to a former Indian cricket team member and a veteran by her own right and someone who has played alongside Mithali, Jhulan and Harmarpreet, Nooshin Al Khadeer who shared her two pieces of advice.
Since that talk, India won both their warm-up matches against South Africa and West Indies and made a thumping start to their World Cup campaign by defeating neighbours Pakistan by 107 runs!

It won't be easy, but who said the Women in Blue want it that way?
While India is still settling in with their combination of the squad, the New Zealand side is as strong and as sorted as ever.
Coming into this WODI match, the Kiwis will obviously enjoy the upper hand given their head to head record and having thrashed India 4-1 in the series leading up to the World Cup.
However, the room for surprises are galore and the Women in Blue will have made copious notes from that 4-1 series where they managed to win the final match to save face and avoid a whitewash. So, one can never tell!
