Weightlifting is one of the oldest sports which dates back to the 19th century when competitions were announced to know who lifts the highest weight in the civilisation or country. The sport started at same time in various countries such as Egypt, China, Indian and Ancient Greece.

Weightlifting was included in the first modern Olympics 1896 and since then the sport has evolved into one of the most competitive sport. In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, men and women lifters will compete across 14 weight categories (7 men and 7 women).

There have been various records set by lifters over the years. Let's have a look at Olympic record, World record and National record in each weight category.
