19 Indian athletes will soon be marking their presence in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics today. Follow our LIVE updates from the event.
A total of 19 Indian athletes from seven sports and six officials will participate in the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.
From hockey, only flag-bearer, men's team captain Manpreet Singh, will participate in the ceremony. This is for the first time India will have two flag bearers. Manpreet will be joined by the legendary boxer Mary Kom. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4.30 PM IST.

Minister Anurag Thakur watching Olympics opening ceremony
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur, joined by eminent sportspersons, including Olympic bronze medallists Karnam Malleswari and Yogeshwar Dutt, wished Team India the very best as the 32nd Summer Olympics got underway with the Opening Ceremony at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

Bangladesh's Nobel laureate to become the second recipient of Olympic Laurel
Nobel Peace Prize awardee Muhammad Yunus is set to be awarded the Olympic laurel. This Bangladeshi 81-year old economist turned-globe-trotting celebrity will be receiving his award at the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on July 23, 2021.

Indian hockey team seem to have dressed up for the occasion as well although we are not sure if they will be a part of the Indian contingent at the National Stadium in Tokyo

No shooters will be present at the ceremony due to Covid-19 concerns.
Similarly, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and medal hopeful mixed team of Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das will not be attending the ceremony.
