Welcome to The Bridge's LIVE updates from Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics.
Tokyo Olympics begins today. Four Indian archers will compete in the qualification stages of the men's and women's archery events on Day 1 of the Games. While the men's section will be led by Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai, and Praveen Jadhav, the women's section will be led by world number one Deepika Kumari.

12-year-old walks out as Syria's flag bearer
Hend Zaza, a 12-year-old table tennis player, walked as the joint flag bearer for the country of Syria in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. She is also the youngest athlete to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

We have Swaziland with a new name
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony had the country of Swaziland walking in with its new name, 'Eswatani,' earlier. Swaziland competed in the Olympics for the first time during the 1972 Munich Games, before missing the next two editions. They have been a regular feature at the Games since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics but will compete with their new name for the first time after the country's king changed its name to Eswatani in 2018.
