The Assam Cabinet has waived the settlement premium on more than three bighas of land allotted to Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain for her boxing academy, with the settlement approved at a nominal rate of ₹1.
The land is located in Hudumpur village under Chayani Mouza in the Palashbari revenue circle. The decision, announced on October 9, is intended to support sports infrastructure development and encourage the growth of boxing and other sporting disciplines in Assam.
The proposed Lovlina Boxing Academy is expected to provide training opportunities for aspiring boxers and help develop the next generation of athletes from the state. The cabinet’s decision recognises Borgohain’s contribution to Indian sport and her role in inspiring young athletes.
Borgohain won bronze in the women’s 69kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and recently secured gold in the women’s 75kg category at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Her latest achievement added to her record as one of India’s leading international boxers.
The land concession comes as Assam looks to strengthen its sporting ecosystem and create more opportunities for athletes to train and compete. The proposed academy could provide a dedicated platform for boxing talent development in the state.
The cabinet approved the waiver as part of a broader set of decisions taken during its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The move places a focus on athlete development infrastructure, using a dedicated facility to support grassroots participation and help aspiring boxers access structured training.
