Accused of theft, teenage shooter ends his life in Bhopal, MP
A 17-year-old shooting student at government-run institute in Bhopal ended his life after he was accused of stealing his senior's money.
In a concerning and saddening event, a 17-year-old student at the government-run shooting academy in Bhopal shot himself and died.
Local police confirmed the development on Monday.
The boy, Yatharth Raghuvanshi, allegedly shot himself with the practice gun at the academy on Sunday evening, Ratibad police station in-charge Ras Bihari Sharma said, adding that the boy did not leave any note behind.
However, a report from TOI suggests that the kid was accused of stealing a senior's money.
Police didn't find any note but there were Whatsapp messages he sent to his father and friends expressing shock at being accused of stealing Rs. 40,000.
The student, a resident of Ashok Nagar district in Madhya Pradesh, was staying in a hostel of the shooting academy in the state capital Bhopal.
He was in class 12 and had been training at the shooting academy for two years and had recently qualified for the nationals.
Guns and ammunition are issued to players in the academy around 9 am, and they are supposed to deposit the weapon and spent shells before 6 pm.
Practicing with a 12-gauge shotgun, Yatharth turned the gun on himself and shot. The incident was captured on the CCTV but went unnoticed for 30 minutes.
The watchman noticed it and informed the police after that.
The police are investigating the matter and his phone has been sent for forensic analysis.
