Malnourishment is one of the biggest challenges India has been facing ever since the nation's independence in 1947. As per the latest data released by the Indian government in December 2021, a total of 29% of the children below 5 years in the country are undernourished.

Moreover, a whopping 18.7% of Indian women between the age of 15 to 49 too fall in the same category.
To tackle this grave problem, India celebrates National Nutrition Week annually from 1st to 7th September.

What is National Nutrition Week?

The celebration of National Nutrition Week was started in the year 1975 by the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
However, India first celebrated this in 7 years later in 1982 when the then ruling goverment felt it was necessary to spread awareness regarding the need to live a long and healthy life among the country's population.
The core idea of the National Nutrition Week is to encourage healthy and adaptive eating habits for a healthy lifestyle.
It also provides emphasis on the need to consume sufficient proteins, vitamins for proper growth.

National Nutrition Week 2022
