Born in a poor household, Anju Kumari wins gold in Moscow Wushu 2020 in Russia
In the recently concluded Moscow Wushu Star 2020, held from March 24 to 29, she returned with a gold medal.
Born to a gardener father Bal Krishan in Chandigarh, Anju was first noticed while training with the Swayam team of Chandigarh police by Wushu Association of Chandigarh. Since then she has only proved her mettle in every competition she has participated in.
In the recently concluded Moscow Wushu Star 2020, held from March 24 to 29, she returned with a gold medal, reports The Times of India.
The annual tournament is duly recognised by the International Wushu Federation and European Wushu Federation. In this event, around 700 athletes from 19 countries had participated.
It has been only two years that she has started training under the Wushu Association of Chandigarh and soon went on to prove herself after winning the 18th Junior National Wushu Championship held in the city in September 2019.

The 17-year-old, who won her medal in 52kg category, will be supported by the city's association for her expenses. She was coached by Sandeep Malik, Manoj and Ram Meher for her nationals event. Sudershan Kumar, general secretary of Wushu Association of Chandigarh expressed his happiness as he termed this achievement as 'a prized moment for the city'.
"She has been training with us for two years now and form the first day, she was a special talent for us. We had no hesitation in bearing all her expenses including the routine medical fees. We are also to the Sports Authority of India and the Sports Ministry for their support," Kumar said.

He further said that Anju will get residential training at the recently established SAI Wushu Center of Excellence in Itanagar under Khelo India scheme. The Sports Authority of India will bear the cost of her training and her education along with three more players from the city, Roshni, Komal and Gayatri.
According to the TOI, the Indian team, comprising of 29 players in junior category, returned with six gold, six silver and three bronze in various weight categories.
