Sumeet Passi’s injury time goal for Jamshedpur FC helped his side salvage a draw against bottom placed Hyderabad in Indian Super League (ISL) at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on February 13. It was Jamshedpur ‘s sixth draw of the season and the team now stands seventh on the table after 18 matches.
Hyderabad’s Spanish midfielder Nestor Gordillo scored the first goal of the match in the 39th minute as the hosts looked to record only their second win of the season but Passi’s last-minute strike dashed Hyderabad’s hopes.
The hosts had chance to score a goal in just the fourth minute of the match as they won a corner-kick. Marcelinho took the set piece opportunity and Adil Khan tried to head the ball into the net but the ball was cleared by Jamshedpur’s defence. It was end to end stuff as only minutes later Jamshedpur’s keeper Rafique Ali denied Marko Stankovic from similar range.
Jamshedpur had most of the possession but to no avail as Hyderabad broke the deadlock in the six minutes before the half-time. Marcelinho’s through ball was cut off by Joyner Lourenco, but the loose ball fell to Gordillo who rifled a strike into the back of the net.
There was injury concern for the visitors as their star striker Sergio Castel started limping before the first half and had to be replaced at half-time. Castel was substituted by Amarjit Kiyam in the midfield.
The final quarter of the game was a cagey affair as both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances. But in the third minute of injury-time, Passi managed to get onto Noe Acosta’s free-kick and glanced a header with the back of his head to break Hyderabad’s hearts.
