HIL: Soorma Hockey Club beats Tamil Nadu Dragons for bronze medal – Highlights

That's all we have from the third-place playoff match between Soorma Hockey Club and the Tamil Nadu Dragons in the 2024-25 Hockey India League. 

The Soorma were clearly the better side today and they deservedly walk away with the bronze medals. They did not have the best starts to the season but came back well to qualify for the semi-finals before facing a heartbreak there.

They, however, bounced back well today scoring three goals despite struggling with penalty corners. 

The Dragons, meanwhile, crumbled after having the best start in the season. They exit the competition with four successive losses after leading the points table for most part of the season.

Victor Wegnez is Player of the Match

Soorma Hockey Club's Victor Wegnez is Player of the Match.

"Its true nobody expected us to be in the semi-finals looking at the start. I got injured for four matches, Harmanpreet got injured. But our strength was we got a good group. Sometimes you don't win only with the strong team but a strong group," he says.

With less than 30 seconds left on the clock, the Dragons come on a counter attack via Uttam Singh. There's an aerial pass into the circle, but it is misplaced. Soorma bring it down with ease to avert any last minute hiccups.

Another penalty corner for the Tamil Nadu Dragons and Jip Janssen slots the ball in this time around. A ferocious drag flick this time and it beats everyone within the blink of an eye into the net.

The Soorma ask for a review, they feel the ball did not leave the circle before the drag flick was taken. However, they are proven wrong and lose their review.

A minute and ten seconds left on the clock and Dragons have pulled one back. Can they find an equaliser as well?

58' - Dragons miss PC

A stick check inside the circle earns Tamil Nadu Dragons a penalty corner. Jip Janssen with a powerful drag flick and it manages to beat both the defensive line and the goalkeeper.

However, the ball hits the goal post and ricochets off it. The Dragons ask for a review for a dangerous ball as they fell the ball rose high off a defender's stick but are proven wrong. They lose their review.

A good run into the circle from the right from Gurjant Singh and he manages to pass the ball to in front of the goal, though it was not very well controlled.

Prabhjot Singh pounces on it and guides the ball in. A proper poach. Soorma have extended their lead. 

That should be game, set, match for Soorma.

55' - Soorma miss PC

Nicolas Keenan with a good run at the baseline on the left and he immediately asks for a review. He feels there was a back stick from Amit Rohidas and it should be a penalty corner for Soorma.

Keenan is proven right and they have a penalty corner.

However, it's the same old with the dragflick. No variation this time either from Soorma as Harmanpreet fires the shot in. Princedeep kicks the ball away with ease.

Sukhvinder picks up a green card for Soorma Hockey Club and they are down to ten men for the next two minutes. Can the Dragons take advantage?

49' - Brilliant from Vanasch

The Soorma Hockey Club are on an attack but a good steal from the Dragons right in front of the goal and they come on a counter.

Uttam Singh with a brilliant run and he passes the ball to the right from where it is drilled into an empty circle. Nathan Ephraums is at the right place to trap it and take a shot but goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch senses danger.

The Belgian steps down from his post and clears the ball away singlehandedly, bringing Ephraums down in the process.
