FIH Pro League LIVE: The Indian men's hockey team commenced their 2025-26 FIH Pro League campaign with a 1-3 loss agianst Belgium at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Wednesday.
A young team sans the experience of Manpreet Singh, Krishan Bahadur Phatak, Dilpreet Singh, and others struggled to create attacking chances and lacked the killer instinct inside the circle.
Shilanand Lakra scored the lone goal for the hosts.

52' - Good defence from Belgium!
A good steal from Shilanand Lakra and it catches the Belgians by a surprise. He loses his defender and goes on a solo run down the centre.
Lakra puts the ball to Nilakanta Sharma, who in turn puts it to Karthi Selvam inside the circle. But before the latter could take a shot, a Belgian defender comes in with a clean tackle.
That's a golden chance gone begging for India.

Less than ten minutes left on the clock now but neither teams seem to be in a hurry. Belgium dominating the possession, but they are happy to sit back and play among themselves.
India, meanwhile, are back to full strength.

END OF THIRD QUARTER!
End of an engaging third quarter. Belgium, once again, came close to scoring multiple times but the Indian defence held strong.
India will hope to create more chances in the final quarter, else it might just be a solitary error in the defence to undo all the hard work.

39' - INDIA DENY!
A good dragflick right on target from Belgium. But India's postman Jarmanpreet Singh and goalkeeper Suraj Karkera combine well to stop it from going in.
Again good coordination between the two and I'm not sure if it was Jarmanpreet's stick or Karkera's legs, which stopped the ball from going in.
Jarmanpreet then clears it away.
