The Indian team eke out a win against a stubborn Maldives at the SAFF U-20 Championship 2022.

After creating numerous chances and failing to convert them, it was Gurkirat Singh's thumping strike that rippled the net at the stroke of full time. A stubborn and sat-back Maldives was looking to play for a draw, but Singh's scorching strike had Maldives' goalie stood on his spot.
The narrow 1-0 win means that Shanmugam Venkatesh's blues will meet a high-flying Bangladesh in the final of the SAFF U-20 Championship 2022. However, Parthib Gogoi's red card at the dying minutes of the game means that the prolific forward will most likely miss out on the final.
Nonetheless, India has enough firepower in them in the likes of Himanshu Jangra, Shubho Paul, and Gurkirat Singh to eye redemption against Bangladesh, a team who had handed them their first defeat in the competition. The final will be played on 5th August at 7 pm IST.
