The current season of Indian Super League season (ISL) has been a roller coaster. The biggest plus of the season has been the form of the Indian footballers. The rise of the Indian players is certainly noteworthy. The likes of Roy Krishna, Hugo Boumous and Bartholomew Ogbeche have dominated the stat charts.

While the evergreen Sunil Chhetri lead the scoring charts for Bengaluru FC once again, the likes of Suresh Wangjam, Jackichand Singh, Edwin Sydney and Lenny Rodrigues certainly enhanced their reputation further. Here are five best Indian players from this season's ISL:

Arindam Bhattacharja

A well-known name in the national football circuit, Arindam Bhattacharaja has had a brilliant season under the bars for ATK. He has nine clean sheets to his name so far, one less than Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. But Bhattacharaja still has the final to play in. His temperament has been questioned at times in his career, but the Bengali goalkeeper has silenced all his critics with some sensational saves this season, especially in the second leg of the semifinal against Bengaluru FC. With 48 saves in 19 games so far, he has underlined his class and emerged as one of best keepers in the country currently.

Brandon Fernandes

Brandon Fernandes has been a revelation in midfield for FC Goa this season and a vital cog in their dominance. With seven assists to his name, he was unstoppable throughout the campaign. Fernandes sadly missed out the first leg of the semifinal against Chennaiyin due to an injury. His absence was sorely felt by the Gaurs, who lost that game 4-1 and bowed out in the second leg despite winning it 4-2. However, his contributions helped FC Goa win the league stage and qualify for the AFC Champions League Group Stage next year and he was also called up for the India camp which was scheduled to take on Qatar and Tajikistan later this month but those fixtures have been postponed due to the coronavirus scare.

Prabir Das

A fullback of exceptional guile and nuance, Prabir Das dominated the right hand side of the field throughout the season for ATK. With five assists and 28 interceptions to his name, he was vital to the Kolkata clubs’ epic run to the final and was awarded the Man of the Match in the second semifinal against Bengaluru FC for his exemplary performance, having set up two of the three goals that ATK scored. The former Mohunbagan fullback will be hoping he can inspire his side to a third title against Chennaiyin and given his form, he has every right to believe in his dream.

Anirudh Thapa

Chennaiyin FC started the season poorly but come 14 March, they will take on ATK in the final, having completely turned their season around under Owen Coyle. At the heart of this renaissance has been the brilliant Anirudh Thapa.

He has been an ever-presence in the midfield of the Machans, recycling possession and setting up key goals. With six assists, a league-high 51 interceptions and 55 tackles to his name, Anirudh has underlined in class in a system that suits his strengths and will be hoping to make it all the way to lift the trophy.

Lallianzuala Chhangte

Another exceptional player from Chennaiyin is Lallianzuala Chhangte. Like Thapa, Chhangte too was important for Chennaiyin's turnaround after Coyle came in charge. The right winger netted seven times this season, including a brilliant finish against FC Goa in the first semifinal. He was the kingpin for the Machans on the wing, linking up very effectively with both Valskis and Crivellaro and leading almost every counterattack with his electric pace and delightful runs beyond the defence and in and around the hole.

While these players stood out for their brilliant display of football this season the likes of Narender Gahlot, Pritam Kotal, Mandar Rao Desai, Nandha Kumar and Vishal Kaith also deserve notable mention.
