ISL 2019 Week 6 Round-up: FC Goa claim top spot from ATK
Week 6 of the Indian Super League was jam-packed with some headline acts and saw some notable changes in the top-half of the table. The usual suspects currently make up the top 4 but there is no guarantee that the order won’t change from now till the end of the year.
Atletico De Kolkata picked up three points from two games over the week, thrashing Northeast United FC 3-0 but then losing to FC Goa away. The ATK’s game was the only one Northeast played this week, as the severe unrests in Assam saw their game against Chennaiyin FC postponed indefinitely. On the other hand, FC Goa had an excellent run as they came back from their loss to Jamshedpur FC to successive triumphs over Hyderabad FC and ATK.
Hyderabad FC had yet another miserable week, as they endured losses to Goa and Odisha FC. Odisha FC picked up all the points on offer against their fellow newbies at home. Jamshedpur FC had a disappointing run, managing only two draws which saw them drop to 4th place in the table.
Chennaiyin FC, under new boss Owen Coyle shared points with Jamshedpur in one of the games while their other one was, as mentioned before, postponed. Kerala Blasters was the other draw, as the Manjapadda loyalists’ long wait to see their team win a game since their opening day victory over ATK continues. Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC played out a thrilling fixture on the last match day, as the Brigadiers eked out a 3-2 win over the Blues at the Kanteerava.
Takeaways From Week 6
FC Goa starting to hit peak form?
Sergio Lobera’s men made their loss to Jamshedpur FC look like a one-off as they played with dominance and precision in both their games this week. Their performance against ATK will be a massive confidence booster for them as well. Their lead-man, Ferran Corominas became the first player in ISL to rack 50 goal involvements(38 goals, 12 assists) and they look to be hitting good form going into the business end of the season.
Hyderabad FC look lost
Phil Brown may not have much longer at his job as his side fell to their 5th and 6th defeats of the week. Despite some spirited, albeit disjointed performances the Nizams are rooted to the bottom of the table with no hope of changing their fortunes anytime soon.
