A few convincing wins and a few downright heartbreaking losses is how one would describe the second day of the All England Open 2018. Fourth seed P.V. Sindhu, began her match against Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol on a steady note and took the first game 21-13. The second game saw a shift in power, in which, Jindapol took the game away, also, at 21-13. In the third set, both players looked ready to win but Sindhu managed to seal the deal with a 21-18 game which earned her the spot in the quarter-final against Nozumi Okuhara. With Saina out, Sindhu remains the sole Indian representative in Women's single and she is joined by unseeded H.S. Prannoy in the Men's Singles category as the lone Indian since Kidambi Srikanth crashed out. H.S. Prannoy looked far better equipped in his match against Sugiarto yesterday than he did in first round match. He took only 38 minutes to send the Korean packing 21-10, 21-19. In the second game, Prannoy trailed 8-11 but quickly pulled his socks up. For Srikanth Kidambi, who has not had the best time recently, luck did not favour him this time. In his first round match, the third seed Indian shuttler survived match points before moving into the second round. But this time, he failed to convert two match points against Huang Yuxiang and lost the match 21-11, 15-21, 22-20. Things did not go well for India in doubles at all. In Men's as well as Mixed Doubles, India crashed out on the second day at the All England Open. In Men's Doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down against Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, seeded second. The pair put up a valiant fight but failed to make much of it and went down 21-16, 16-21, 23-21. Finally, the day ended for India with Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy became completely outplayed by Wang Yilhu and Huang Dongping where they were defeated 10-21, 6-21. With all hopes gone in doubles, it is up to Sindhu and Prannoy to keep battling ahead at the All England Open.
