Women's cricket is slowly but certainly getting the attention it deserves especially after a superb run at the recently concluded ICC Women's T20 World Cup where India emerged as the runners-up.

But there was a time when only a few people knew some players from the women's cricket circuit and there was a dearth of people watching women's cricket. At that time, current women's ODI captain had gone on to lead the Indian team to their first ever World Cup finals.

It was today, 15 years ago, that a historic moment was registered in the book of Indian cricket when Anjum Chopra captained the team to the finals in the World Cup.

In their journey to the finals India defeated England and lost to New Zealand in the group stage. However, they had exacted revenge by beating against the Kiwis in semifinal which was also their first ever win against New Zealand in one day cricket.

Mithali Raj was starred for the Indian eves and was announced as the player of the match for her unbeaten 91 runs. It was the the highest score by an Indian in World Cup match at that time.

The record was recently broken by the current T20 captain, Harmanpreet Kaur. This year, it was Kaur who led the team to a World Cup final in the shortest format.
