Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 9: Neeraj Chopra wins javelin silver, 10 boxers reach finals - Highlights

After another successful outing that saw Lovepreet Singh and Seema Kaliramna add silver and bronze, respectively, to India's medal tally, the country's athletes return for a crucial Day 9 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
On Friday, India scripted history in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh clinched silver and bronze respectively, securing the country's first-ever double podium in the event.
Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar bagged his first-ever Decathlon medal for India, winning a bronze medal despite struggling with an injury before the start of his event.
On the other hand, Asmita Dey (Women's 48Kg) and Harsh Singh (Men's 60Kg) became the first-ever Indian judokas to win a CWG gold medal. Yamini Mourya (57Kg) won the silver medal.
In addition, all ten Indian semi-finalists in boxing won their respective bouts and will fight for Gold on Saturday.

Boxing, Men's 80kg SF: Ankush in action
Ankush Panghal will be the second Indian boxer in the action on the day. He'll go up against Joshua Ofori of Canada in the men's 80kg seimi-finals.
Panghal is assured of at least a bronze. This bout will decide if he can fight for gold or not.

Athletics, Mixed 4x400m Relay: India finishes 4th in heat 2; advances to final
Indian quartet of Vishal TK, Ansa Babu, Rajesh Ramesh and Rashdeep Kaur clocked 3:20.98s to finish 4th in heat 2 and finished 7th overall in the preliminary round.
They missed out on automatic qualification as there were only three per heat, but finished among the fastest two non-automatic qualifiers and booked their spot for the final.

Judo: Men's 66Kg Round of 16: Rohit Majgul advances to the quarterfinal with a win on Ippon
Rohit claimed two waza-ari against Samuel Rebeiro of Mozambique, which combined to confirm an Ippon, and he won the bout in just 1 minute and 55 seconds.
Earlier, Shraddha Chopade also moved to the women's 52Kg quarterfinals with a win on Ippon against Jane Massaquoi of Sierra Leone.

Athletics, Men's Decathlon Discus Throw: Tejaswin Shankar crosses the 40m mark for the first time
Tejaswin bettered his personal best for the second consecutive throw, registering a 40.44m throw to earn 674 points.
This is the first time Tejaswin crossed the 40m mark, and he finished the men's discus throw event in 6th place.
Overall, he is still in second place with 5935 points, just 3 points away from the leader, Damian Warner of Canada.

Harsh Singh defeated Chikondi Kathewera of Malawi in his first bout of the competition after registering an Ippon due to a dangerous arm submission.

Athletics, Men's Decathlon Discus Throw: Tejaswin Shankar records a new personal best of 39.66m
This is only the second time Shankar has crossed the 39m mark in the discus throw, improving his PB by 38cm.
He is now in 6th position in the discus throw field, with 658 points from the discus throw after his two attempts.

Tejaswin starts with a 37.20m, which will give him 608 points from the event.
Shankar will hope to improve his performance in the coming throws, reaching close to his best of 39.28m from the 2023 Asian Games.

She is in a very comfortable position as she heads into the final round does Preeti.
The Indian isn't backing round as she continues to land punches, whilst reaching out of the reach of her opponent.
