Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 9: Neeraj Chopra wins javelin silver, 10 boxers reach finals - Highlights

Follow for all the highlights from Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Neeraj Chopra, Indian boxers, judokas and Tejaswin Shankar compete in Glasgow.

After another successful outing that saw Lovepreet Singh and Seema Kaliramna add silver and bronze, respectively, to India's medal tally, the country's athletes return for a crucial Day 9 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

On Friday, India scripted history in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh clinched silver and bronze respectively, securing the country's first-ever double podium in the event.

Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar bagged his first-ever Decathlon medal for India, winning a bronze medal despite struggling with an injury before the start of his event.

On the other hand, Asmita Dey (Women's 48Kg) and Harsh Singh (Men's 60Kg) became the first-ever Indian judokas to win a CWG gold medal. Yamini Mourya (57Kg) won the silver medal.

In addition, all ten Indian semi-finalists in boxing won their respective bouts and will fight for Gold on Saturday.

Bowls, Men's Pairs, Section B, India vs Falkland Islands: India wins Set 1.
India played amazingly in Set 1 and took the lead from the opening end. They started by taking one point in End 1 and added four more points in End 2. The Falkland Islands then found a way back and took two points. India added one more point, while the Falkland Islands took another point in the final end.
India won Set 1 with a score of 6-3.

Judo, Men's 66Kg Quarterfinals: Rohit Majgul loses on golden score; moves to Repechage
Rohit pushed Petros Christodoulides to extra time as both judokas couldn't find any scoring moves.
But in the 6th minute, Petros scored his first point by a Yuko, with a leg tangle, forcing Rohit to fall.
Rohit will now move to repechage, hoping to make it to the bronze medal bout.

Judo, Women's 52 kg Quarterfinal: Shraddha Chopade loses on golden score; moves to Repechage
Shraddha showed a good defensive display against reigning champion Tinka Easton of Australia, forcing extra time for a golden score.
After a long 6 minutes 45 seconds bout, Tinka finally earned her first point on a Yuko to win the bout.
Meanwhile, Shraddha will now move to repechage and hope for a bronze medal later in the day.

India returns for its fourth match in bowls men's pairs event after winning three matches in a row against Botswana, Namibia, and the Cook Islands. India will now face the Falkland Islands in its fourth match at 5:15 PM IST. They will hope to continue their winning run and keep their chances high of finishing at the top of the table and qualifying for the semi finals.

Judo, Men's 60Kg Quarterfinal: Harsh Singh advances to semis with a first-minute Ippon
Harsh started the bout aggressively, winning the two points on the side throws (Yuko) against Alan Monthouel of Vanuatu.
He then followed it with an Ippon in 53 seconds to book his spot in the semi-final.

Boxing, Men's 80kg SF: Ankush moves into the FINAL!
Ofori once again starts strongly, only for Ankush to move around rapidly. He is reading his opponent brilliantly, is the Indian.
Ofori is throwing in everything he can against Ankush, who is undettered.
Don't think the Canadian has done enough to turn around that huge deficit from the first two rounds.
Ankush Singh will move into the gold medal bout of men's 80kg. The second Indian to do so.
India are 2/2 in the day!

Boxing, Men's 80kg SF: Ankush takes Round 2
Ofori continues to throw punches. He's constantly running those hands quickly, but Ankush is calm.
The Indian continues to evade, stay out of reach before landing blows on the country from afar by using his height to a good advantage.
Ofori has now been handed a point deduction, so that works out in favour of the Indian!
Ankush wins Round 2 unanimously as well. He has one leg in the gold medal bout!

Boxing, Men's 80kg SF: Ankush wins Round 1
Ofori starts on the offensive as Ankush keeps moving around constantly. A couple of nice evasions already from the Indian, who seems to be settling in slowly.
Ankush relying on the counters as he is often pushed into a corner. He'll have to show some aggression here, I reckon.
The good thing for Ankush is that the Canadian hasn't been able to land a lot of clean blows despite his attempts.
Unanimous 5-0 in Round 1 for Ankush!

Judo, Women's 48Kg Quarterfinal: Asmita Dey claims a win on Ippon; enters semi-finals
Asmita finds a good grip on the arm of Ewa Ewing of Scotland and forces an Ippon.
With this, she has now entered the semi-finals and is just one win away from a medal.
