India heads into Day 4 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 looking to build on Jhandu Kumar's bronze medal, with several medal hopefuls in action across weightlifting, boxing, bowls, gymnastics and swimming.
The spotlight was on Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu, who bagged her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal. Meanwhile, Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi bagged silver medals in their respective weight categories.
Elsewhere, boxers Preeti Pawar and Jadumani Singh reached the quarterfinals, while Aditya Pratap Yadav lost out in the round of pre-quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh had two bowls matches. Putul Sonowal, Tapan Mohanty, and the Indian men's swimming relay team were also in action.

Bowls, Men's Singles, India vs Malta: Putul Sonowal is out of medal contention at the Commonwealth Games 2026
Shaun James Parnis levelled the score in the final end to win the match by 10-4,7-7. After his earlier defeat to Malaysia, Putul Sonowal's second loss means he can no longer finish on top of Section D and is out of medal contention at the Commonwealth Games 2026. He will still play his final sectional match tomorrow, which will also bring an end to his Commonwealth Games debut.

Weightlifting, Women's 48kg: Mirabai Chanu returns
All the lifters are done and Mirabai Chanu steps out for her first clean and jerk attempt.
And much like snatch, she drops her first attempt at 105kg.

Bowls, Men's Singles, India vs Malta: Shaun James Parnis gets two points.
End 6 was a good opportunity for Putul to extend his lead and move closer to winning Set 2. However, he was unable to convert the end in his favour, allowing Shaun James Parnis to pick up two points and reduce the lead to just one point. End 7 will now decide whether the match goes into a tie-breaker.

Bowls, Men's Singles, India vs Malta: Putul Sonowal extends his lead to three points.
Putul stayed in control in End 5, giving the Maltese player no chance to get close to the jack. He maintained his lead throughout the end and picked up two points to extend his lead to 7-4.

Putul finally found his rhythm and found his way back into the match. Determined to win Set 2 and force a tie-breaker, he picked up one point in end 4 to take a one-point lead.

Putul finally had an end where all his bowls finished closest to the jack, giving Shaun James Parnis no chance to score. The Indian picked up four points from the end to level the score.

Putul was unable to produce his best in the second set, with most of his bowls finishing well away from the jack. Shaun James Parnis took full advantage, extending his lead to 4-0 and moving closer to victory.

The clean and jerk attempts in women's 48kg weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu's event have started.
As in snatch, she'll be the last one in action and should take her attempts back-to-back with no one to challenge her.

Set 2 was crucial for Putul, as he needed to win it to force a tie-breaker and keep his hopes alive in both the match and the competition. However, the start did not go his way. He was unable to turn End 1 in his favour, allowing the Maltese player to take a 1-0 lead.

A set that Putul needed to win went completely in Shaun James Parnis' favour. The Maltese player dominated throughout the set and only allowed Putul to score in the final two ends, taking Set 1 comfortably with a 10-4 .
