India heads into Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 on the back of another productive day in Glasgow, winning six medals across three different sports.
On Tuesday, Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh stole the spotlight for India, winning a silver medal each in the women's 69kg weightlifting and men's 10,000m, respectively, with record-breaking performances.
Meanwhile, three boxers - Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas and Jadumani Singh - progressed to the semi-finals of their respective weight categories to guarantee themselves at least bronze medals.
Elsewhere, Srihari Nataraj finished sixth in his semi-final and 12th overall, failing to make it past the men's 100m backstroke final. He clocked 55.52s.
Vishal TK, India's national record holder in the men's 400m, also advanced to the semi-finals with a 46.49s run.

India has topped the world for doping violations for three consecutive years - 2022, 2023 and 2024. The number of cases has nearly doubled, rising from 125 to 260, with athletics accounting for the highest share.
In April 2026, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) placed India in Category A - the highest-risk classification for doping, alongside Russia and Kenya.
Despite the alarming trend, NADA's budget has fallen from โน24.30 crore to around โน20.3 crore in the 2025โ26 Revised Estimates, even as India's overall sports budget has crossed โน4,400 crore.

India's Sajan Prakash crashed out of the men's 50m butterfly after finishing eighth in Heat 9 with a time of 24.94s.
The veteran swimmer ended 28th overall, with only the top 16 advancing to the semi-finals, bringing his campaign in the 50m butterfly event to an end.

Day 5 Recap: Historic para athletics gold, more weightlifting medals power India's campaign!
Sharmila Dhankhar scripted history by becoming India's first-ever para athletics Commonwealth Games champion, winning gold in the women's F57 shot put with a best throw of 9.81m. Adding to the celebrations, Shilpa K. Shyla claimed bronze after being upgraded following a successful protest, giving India a historic double podium. The medals also ended the country's 20-year wait for a para athletics medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Weightlifting continued to be India's strongest discipline as Ajaya Babu Valluri settled for silver in the men's 79kg category after an intense battle with Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan, finishing just one kilogram short of gold despite setting a new Commonwealth Games snatch record of 149kg. Gyaneshwari Yadav won silver in the women's 53kg event with a national record total of 199kg, while Bindyarani Devi claimed bronze in the women's 58kg category to secure her second successive Commonwealth Games medal.
In athletics, Sarvesh Kushare became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the men's high jump, clearing 2.25m.
