ISL 2019 BREAKING: John Gregory to continue as Chennaiyin FC coach

After a disappointing start to the season, two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC gaffer John Gregory was rumoured to sign off as he hinted his will to depart the Chennai-based ISL franchise during the last match before the international break.

It was apparent that the 65-year-old English man had applied for resignation. The Bridge can, however, confirm that John Gregory will continue as the head coach of Chennaiyin FC at least for this season.

The Abhishek Bacchan-owned franchise are facing a drought in scoring goals as it has been more than six months since they last scored a league goal. Though Chennaiyin did make some quality additions to their roasters, they failed to bolster their attack after the departure of Raphael Augusto, their former playmaker in midfield.

Gregory, the former Aston Villa manager, has suffered three losses out of the four matches before the break. Chennaiyin FC was seen to resume practice today under John Gregory that further confirmed the development.

Gregory's departure to England during the international break had raised doubts on his future with the club. "It's about time I sit with the owner and had a talk. She has been supportive and I need to talk now. We can't continue like this. I carried this club on my shoulders for the last two years. It's not easy, I have never worked so hard but I think it might be time for someone to take over. I have tried my best but the club comes first. I'm hurting like hell, more than you would ever believe," the gaffer had said in the post-match press conference after Chennai lost to Bengaluru FC.

However, with the break approaching its end, the situation seems to have been resolved. The gaffer is now set to take reigns once again with a hope to refurbish and make Chennaiyin FC gain its lost glory.
