HS Prannoy defeated Kidambi Srikanth in an all-Indian clash 19-21, 21-9, 21-9 to move to the quarter-finals while Lakshya Sen overcame local boy Kanta Tsuneyama 21-14, 21-16.
In men's doubles, Satwik Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty defeated Jeppe Bay/Lasse Molhede 21-17, 21-11. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost to world number 7 pair Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida while

The Indian pair will be feeling extremely hard done by as they lose the first game 21-23. A proper thriller which went from the Japanese leading 19-17 to 20-20 and then the Japanese pair winning it 23-21 courstey a net error from Gayatri.
