Asian Games 2026: Elavenil wins two silvers as India assures more medals in MMA, cricket - Highlights

India enjoyed a productive day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, September 20, winning two silver medals in shooting and assuring medals in MMA and women’s cricket.
Elavenil Valarivan was at the centre of India’s medal haul, winning silver in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event and then helping the Indian women’s team secure another silver alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod. Elavenil scored 252.4 in the individual final, finishing behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi.
India also made history in MMA as Suchika Tariyal defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 in the women’s Traditional 60kg quarterfinal, assuring India its first-ever Asian Games MMA medal.
In cricket, the Indian women’s team stormed into the gold medal match with a 114-run win over Bangladesh. Shafali Verma smashed an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls as India posted 195/4 before bowling Bangladesh out for 81.
Elsewhere, India’s women’s hockey team thrashed Uzbekistan 19-0, while the men defeated Indonesia 13-1. The women’s badminton team also advanced with a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan.
India will return to action on Monday with more medal opportunities.

The Uzbekistan penalty defence has been rock solid, unlike their defensive display from open play.
India have earned four penalty corners in this second quarter, but none of them has been able to go past the Uzbekistan defence.

Shooting, Women's 10m Air Rifle Qualification: Sonam finishes 3rd after relay-1; Vidarsa misses out on top 8
- Sonam Maskar shot a good total score of 634.1 to finish the relay-1 in third place and will be expecting a place in the individual final.
Meanwhile, Vidarsa Vinod had a poor outing as she could only score 630.4 and is currently in 9th place, missing out on a place in the final.
The second relay will start in half an hour with 30 more shooters, including the third Indian, Elavenil Valarivan, who will be in action.
India is currently in tied third place in the overall team standings and will need Elavenil to shoot a brilliant end to have any chance of a team medal.

Teqball, Mixed Doubles Bronze Medal Match: Quimcy D'Souza-Anas loses the match; ends medal-less
Indian Teqers ended without a medal in Nagoya as the mixed doubles pair of Quimcy D'Souza and Mohamed Anas Baig lost their bronze medal match.
The duo couldn't challenge the strong Vietnamese team in the second set, conceding a straight-set defeat, 9-12, 6-12.
Quimcy, after playing two consecutive matches, looked tired and was also struggling with a back injury and took a long injury break in the second set at 5-9.
She, however, returned to the mat, but she was hardly able to move, and the Vietnamese pair easily took the set.
