Asian Games 2026: Elavenil wins two silvers as India assures more medals in MMA, cricket - Highlights

India enjoyed a productive day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, September 20, winning two silver medals in shooting and assuring medals in MMA and women’s cricket.
Elavenil Valarivan was at the centre of India’s medal haul, winning silver in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event and then helping the Indian women’s team secure another silver alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod. Elavenil scored 252.4 in the individual final, finishing behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi.
India also made history in MMA as Suchika Tariyal defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 in the women’s Traditional 60kg quarterfinal, assuring India its first-ever Asian Games MMA medal.
In cricket, the Indian women’s team stormed into the gold medal match with a 114-run win over Bangladesh. Shafali Verma smashed an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls as India posted 195/4 before bowling Bangladesh out for 81.
Elsewhere, India’s women’s hockey team thrashed Uzbekistan 19-0, while the men defeated Indonesia 13-1. The women’s badminton team also advanced with a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan.
India will return to action on Monday with more medal opportunities.

MMA, Women's Traditional 60Kg Quarterfinal: Suchika Tariyal wins the bout to confirm a medal
A good start for Suchika Tariyal at her Asian Games MMA debut, confirming a medal with a 2-0 win over Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the quarterfinals.
Tariyal was the most aggressive fighter throughout the game, producing multiple arm throws, winning takedowns and giving some heavy pounding to the Mongolian.
This will also be India's first-ever MMA medal at the Asian Games, as the sport is making its debut in Aichi-Nagoya.

She is on a roll, isn't she? Deepika is single handedly punishing Uzbekistan.
That strong penalty corner defence from early in the second quarter is nowhere to be seen now as Deepika continues to pile on misery with drag flicks.
It is now a double hat-trick for Deepika. She has no emotions. Her teammates are elated!

The first penalty corner from drag flick from Navneet, hit's a defender's foot. The second is blocked.
Someone launches a shot on rebound and it hits the top bar and deflects away.
India take the deflected ball in control and create a chance from open play, but it is well defended from Uzbekistan.

A penalty corner for India and they try a variation. Doesn't work out, but manage to earn a second.
Deepika launches a ferocious direct drag flick in the second attempt and the ball thuds into the top right corner. Goal No. 4 for Deepika this morning, third via drag flick!
She gets a pat on the shoulder from former captain Sushila Chanu.

We are back for the second half and India are back to their usual business. Neha Goyal is also back on field after that two minute suspension.
A foul committed on Baljeet Kaur (in pic) and India take the advantage quickly inside the circle as Lalremsiami slots the ball in.
The Indians are celebrating, but Uzbekistan ask for a review. They feel it's a backstick from Siami and are proven right. The goal won't stand.

This is school girl error from the experienced Neha Goyal. She plays the ball after the whistle and is rightfully sent out for two minutes.
Might not impact India in this contest, but you expect better from someone of Neha's stature.

Uzbekistan seem to have just given up as India continue to dominate the proceedings. I don't even remember if Uzbekistan had a single circle penetration this match.
Another penalty corner for India and Deepika's drag flick takes multiple deflections from the opponent's defence to roll into the net.
